The events of Sept. 11, 2001, reminded us that we live in a hostile world of constant change. However, God is always unchangeable.
God, through His Son, Jesus Christ, came to earth to give us eternal life. One of the most quoted verses in the Bible is John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” This verse reveals to us four keys to God’s personal plan:
First the motivating factor behind God’s plan was to demonstrate to all that He loves us. God has a plan for you with the simple truth that He is love.
Second we see the personal payment. Our salvation did not come without a cost. In order for our sins to be forgiven, a payment for our sin debt was needed. Jesus paid for our sins so that we might be set free from sin.
Third we see our personal belief — “that whoever believes in Him.” Salvation in God is not about what we do but about what He did for us. Maybe you, like so many others, believe that the only way to heaven is by your good works. Consequently we will never be good enough to earn our way into heaven. Therefore it is our responsibility to believe in His payment for our sin. By believing in Jesus and seeking God’s forgiveness for sin, we are placing our trust in Him and accepting that He sent His only Son to die for us.
Fourth we see salvation’s personal promise — “should not perish but have everlasting life.” Those without Jesus are dying daily, but those who believe in Jesus have the promise of “everlasting life.” Everlasting life means that when you die, you have the promise of eternity in heaven.
Dear friend, is your life in turmoil? Are you looking for personal peace? Living in a hostile world means that sometimes death does comes unexpectedly.
My prayer for you is that you will turn to Jesus right now. Admit that you are a sinner, believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and confess Him as Lord today. Allow His peace to grace your life. You were made for eternity. Accept His eternal life today.
