Want to know God?

Want to know God?

It is not uncommon today to meet someone who expresses an interest in “knowing God.” There are comments made such as “I read the Bible on occasion but I don’t understand it” or “I don’t read the Bible much; it gets me confused” but “I’d like to know more about the Bible, but I’m not certain as to how (to learn).”

To know God, the Bible says we must have faith: “He who comes to God must believe that He is” (Heb. 11:6).

The Bible also says, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Rom. 10:17).

We must confess our sin and repent of it and place our faith in God’s Son, Jesus, who died on a cross so that our sin could be forgiven.

Once Jesus is Lord of our life, then we must continually “feed” upon the Word of God. The prophet Jeremiah, who was very troubled with his people, society and ministries, said, “Your words were found and I ate them; and your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart: For I am called by your name, O Lord God of hosts” (Jer. 15:16).

Jeremiah’s diet changed, his delight changed and he discovered that his destination had changed, all because he began to know God through His Word.

There is no greater joy than having forgiveness of sin, peace with God and assurance of eternal salvation. All of this is available through God’s grace as one exercises faith in His Son (see Ephesians 2:8).
