I smile a lot more these days, and it’s not because I have more money in my pocket or that I have all the new gadgets or everything is going my way; it’s because my daughter loves me no matter how many hours I’m on the phone or how many times I tell her not to go out the dog door.
Day in and day out, she gives me a smile when I walk through the door after a long day and she loves to wake me up in the morning with a kiss.
Even as my daughter disobeys me at times and has to be disciplined, she will come back to me just a few minutes later and give me a big hug and kiss.
She loves me even though I have had to discipline her — just like God loves us even though we are sinners. Because we are sinners, God is unable to be in our presence, so God sent His one and only son, Jesus, to earth through a virgin (Matt. 1:18).
In Romans 3:23 God’s Word states, “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”
All of us have sinned in our life, some big and some small, but it does not matter the size of the sin. Even though we all have sinned and continue to sin, Romans 5:8 tells us that God loves us anyway and that He gave His son for us.
We do not deserve heaven or life everlasting because we are sinners, and in Romans 6:23 God tells us that the wages of sin is death (or hell). However, the verse does not stop there. God tells us He gives us the free gift of God through eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. There are no strings attached. It’s free!
How do you receive this free gift? According to Romans 10:9–10, “Because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”
The love of a child is something special and will make you smile every day, but the joy that you will find in the Lord will be just as special and life-changing. Do you want Jesus today?
