Want to know God?

Want to know God?

Mount Gilead Baptist Church, Dothan

God has sent a “Savior” into the world. But from what do we need to be “saved”? The answer is sin. God is holy. He created everything for His glory. He made man in His image so we could glorify Him through knowing Him, loving Him and enjoying Him forever.

In the beginning Adam and Eve enjoyed a perfect relationship with God in the Garden of Eden. But they sinned, rebelled against God. The Bible teaches that their sin is passed down to us, thus we sin as well (1 Cor. 15:22). The Bible teaches “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23) and “the wages of sin is death … ” (Rom. 6:23). Sin marks us as unrighteous, separates us from a holy God and spiritually kills us. Without Christ, we are spiritually dead.

The good news is that God has sent a Savior into the world. The coming of Jesus meets our greatest need. Jesus came to destroy sin, set sinners free and give them eternal life. As God’s Son, Jesus never sinned so He didn’t deserve to die. Yet He chose to. He died on a Roman cross between two criminals where God the Father rained down punishment for sin on Jesus. Jesus became sin so that those who place their faith in Him might take on His righteousness and gain eternal life.

“For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Cor. 5:21).

No person is righteous by his or her own works, but there is a way to gain righteousness through placing our faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. “Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for ‘The righteous shall live by faith’ ” (Gal. 3:11).

How can you be saved? Confess your sins to God. Ask God to forgive your sins. Trust that Christ can and will save you based solely on His shed blood on the cross. Then seek to live every day turning from sin and pleasing God.

How can you be sure that you will be saved? Three days after His death, Jesus took back His life and rose from the grave. This is proof that He has overcome death and will give life to all who place their faith in Him.
