Searching for “more to this life” seems to be a constant in secular culture. Life without Christ has proven to give emptiness. If you ever find you are longing for more and there seems to be a hole in your heart, then you may need a “heart transplant.”
You may need to swap your old, self-serving heart for a heart that is full of the love and grace of Jesus Christ. Through His death on the cross and resurrection, not only did He forgive our sins but He makes us new. We learn from the Gospel of John, “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.” Jesus also said, “Behold, I make all things new.” So if you are in need of a heart transplant, Jesus Christ is the beginning and the end.
First you need to confess and believe that Jesus can give you new life. Paul told us in the Book of Romans, “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Your confession means you understand that only Christ can forgive your sin. This confession begins with the prompting of the Holy Spirit as you are convicted there must be more to this life.
Second you must repent of your sin. When the Holy Spirit convicts, or reveals your sin, it is time for you to make a move — repentance. To repent you must turn away from your sin and selfishness and move toward God and His holiness.
Third you must understand you are justified only through Jesus and His grace. You will be able to live in right relationship with the Lord through justification. As you live in the grace of Christ, you will find God’s peace abounds.
Finally, you will begin a process of being sanctified to Christlikeness and living as His disciple. You are able to grow in grace and become less of self and more of Christ. As a believer lives in salvation and sanctification, the knowledge of eternity with Christ is an exciting reality. So if you have ever thought, “There has to be more than this,” turn to Jesus Christ and He will satisfy the longing in your heart.
