Larry had a goal to be a millionaire by the age of 35. He easily surpassed his goal and became great at only one thing in his life — making money. The rest of his life was a mess. For Larry, “To live is money.”
Cindy only had one thing in mind — having a good time. For Cindy, “To live is pleasure.”
Peter always went against the flow — at home, at school, on ball teams. He loved being his own man. For Peter, “To live is freedom.”
Phil had earned several degrees in philosophy and a doctorate in theology. He loved discussing the great ideas of human history. For Phil, “To live is knowledge.”
Jane loved her children more than anything else in her life. Every hour of every day was dedicated to taking care of her children. When her children grew up, she said, “With my children gone, I no longer know who I am.” For Jane, “To live is my children.”
What is your center for living? What is the ultimate drive of your life? What brings you the greatest sense of value? It better be good — good enough to help you live. And it better be good enough to help you die.
The apostle Paul said in Philippians 1:21, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” If you were to announce to the world, “For to me, to live is … ” with what word would you fill in the blank? The world is teaching us every day how to live and what to live for. The problem is that the world is all wrong. Living for these things of the world is like going to your favorite restaurant and eating crackers and water; it just doesn’t satisfy, and you know it. Paul would say, “For to me, to live is Christ.”
Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
I invite you to turn your life over to Jesus and start a relationship with Him. I promise you will be satisfied with Jesus.
