Want to know God?

When I arrived at my parents’ home, I was delighted to discover that my Uncle Ed’s car was parked in the yard. He was one of our favorite uncles throughout our growing up years.

Actually he was a “great” uncle. He often brought candy and other goodies to us kids.

I also remember more than once when he helped our family during times of sickness and shortage of the necessities of life.

He was different in our family in that he was a Christian man, a Baptist deacon.

My dad was a favorite nephew of Uncle Ed’s. They were always doing “projects” together.

They loved to build things with their hands. They grew beautiful flowers and plants. They enjoyed each other’s company.

My dad was unsaved and the purpose of this night’s visit from Uncle Ed was to tell him about Jesus. I was unaware of this, and I rushed to the kitchen to join them.

But when I started through the door, I sensed that something very special was happening.

I heard my Uncle Ed say, “I know one day soon I will be in heaven, and I do not want to go and not find you there.”

He shared with my dad that God loved him and sent his Son to die for him so that his sins could be forgiven and he could be saved.

I watched as big tears streamed down my Uncle Ed’s face as he tried to win my dad to Jesus.

I am not sure what my dad was feeling or thinking as he heard the words our uncle shared with him.

I do know that God’s Holy Spirit spoke to my heart in those moments in a way I had never experienced before. I could not get away from that wonderful witness borne by our Uncle Ed to my dad.

God spoke to my heart, and not many days later, I gave my heart and life to the Lord and was saved.

You can do the same by simple faith and trust in the Lord Jesus to be your Savior.
