Want to Know God?

Want to Know God?

The other day, my husband and I were blessed to have dinner cooked for us by my wonderful mother.

As I walked into my mom’s house, I was assaulted by the amazing aromas of home.

The unmistakable scent of her favorite air freshener, the bouquet of supper baking in the oven, the sweet smell of fall air wafting in through the open windows — it was incredible to say the least.

A wave of nostalgia also hit me like a ton of bricks. All the things that were missing — the timber of my father’s voice, the laughter of my young daughter, the family that has been called home. And I thought of the stories that were now left up to me to retell and ensure that our legacy lived on.

After I was stuffed to the gills with a homemade meal, I began to wonder when I get to Heaven and walk into the place that Jesus has prepared for me (John 14:1–3), will it be the same glorious feeling? Will I feel that childlike exuberance of coming home after I’ve been gone for a long time? As I enter in, will I smell the awe-inspiring smells of home? Will I walk into the dining room and see all of my loved ones sitting there waiting for me? I pray I will and seated at the head of the table will be Jesus inviting me to come in saying, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”(Matt. 25:23).

You see, if you accept the free gift of salvation from Jesus, no one can “ever snatch you from His hand” (John 10:25–29). We have these assurances from the one and only King — I’m thankful I know God.  Wouldn’t you like to have these assurances?
