You mean we have to go out and actually do this stuff?” What a silly question. Or is it?
Our church had hosted a two-day seminar on how to win a person to faith in Jesus Christ. Several other churches were represented.
When the facilitator informed us that we would go out into a nearby community and give witness door to door, that drew the surprised response about doing “this stuff.”
While that man was obviously speaking in jest, I have seen such an attitude in some Christians quite often.
And it is not in jest. There is a genuine fear, a stifling reluctance to verbalize the faith we affirm.
We have study groups, seminars, hear sermons on “soul winning.” But how many of us do it consistently?
The Bible says, “When Jesus saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion on them.” Perhaps what motivates us is not so much our learning as it is our loving.
In His famous nighttime interview with Nicodemus, Jesus focused on God’s love for sinners: “For God so loved (loved so much; loved to the extent; loved in such a way) the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
If we really love sinners, then we can show them that they really do need to be saved, that God really does love them, that all it really takes is a heart-belief.
When we admit that without the Lord we are hopelessly lost, we are then ready to seek relief.
And it is there for the asking. Here’s a little sample prayer for salvation:
“Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner. I do believe that You love me and that You died and rose again. I’m sorry I have rejected You. But right now, I ask You to forgive all my sins, to cleanse me from all guilt and to come into my heart as my Savior. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
When you pray sincerely, Jesus promises to forgive and to save you from all your sins.
He is not a liar. He will do what He promises … and He’ll do it for you.
