Want to know God?

Want to know God?

A moment, a spark of inspiration, the thought hits us. A new angle on a business deal. A home improvement project. How to deal with a problem. In a moment, great inventions and songs of praise have been birthed. This great experience called life is the summation of our moments. Usually each moment carries more significance than we realize.

Scripture speaks of moments. First Corinthians 15:52 says, “… in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.” What an incredible moment. Most of us realize that moments are not isolated events. There is usually a great deal of work or thought prior to the “clicking” of the moment. Prior to this great event described in 1 Corinthians, there is a need for another special moment.

That moment is called salvation. Salvation also happens in a moment. Perhaps there are years of hearing about God prior to the moment. Perhaps it is the influence of Christian friends. This experience happens in a moment of decision. A life change takes place that lasts for all eternity. In our Vacation Bible Schools, we describe this most important moment of your life as accepting of His gift by: A-Admitting your sin, B-Believing that Christ died for your sin and God raised Him from the dead and C-Confessing Christ’s Lordship of your life.

Recently I read a statistic that absolutely scared me. According to George Barna’s The Barna Update, dated Dec. 17, 2002, “half of the people who attend Christian churches on any given weekend are not Christian — that is, they do not trust in Christ alone for their eternal salvation. The vast majority of those people have been attending Christian churches for more than decade.” Apparently, though many have witnessed years of worship, Bible study and fellowship, they have never experienced the moment of change called salvation. While there is most certainly work that leads to that moment of salvation and a working of growth after salvation, all is naught without the moment that we give our life to Him. Have you had that moment in your life?
