Want to know God?

Union Hill Baptist Church, Bessemer

When my wife and I were expecting our first baby, we were so excited. Would it be a boy or a girl? Those thoughts raced through our heads.

Like most new parents, we just wanted the baby to be healthy, but deep down, we really wanted our first child to be a boy. When we went to have the ultrasound done, we could not wait to find out.

We were thrilled when we were told that our new baby was indeed going to be a boy.

We went home determined to get everything ready for Timothy Scott’s arrival. Of course, my wife insisted that the nursery be perfect.

We painted it blue and it had trains and trucks and airplanes on the walls. In the room, there were toy trucks and a baseball glove and all the things a little boy would love.

Never once did we even think about painting our little boy’s room pink or to put baby dolls and ribbons in his room. After all, this was a room for a boy and we wanted to make sure he would love everything about it.

When Timothy was born, we brought him home and took him to his new room. We did not tell him that it was only his room for a little while, and we did not tell him he would have to hurry up and get a job to pay for it.

Of course not, my little boy can live there for as long as he wants because he is my son and he has my name and he is blood related to the owner of the home.

In the same way, Jesus is preparing an eternal home just for you.

It will be perfectly designed with you in mind, filled with all the things that you will love.

But you will not live there because you are good or because you earned it. You will only live there if you are God’s child.

And you only become God’s child by repenting of your sins and trusting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

In John 14, Jesus said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions. … I go there to prepare a place for you. … I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father, but through me.”
