Want to know God?

Want to know God?

First Baptist Church, Eufaula

One Monday morning several years ago, I received a phone call from a businessman in our community. I knew who he was but did not know him personally. He wanted to know if I could see him. He came later that morning. When he got to my office, he started talking about how miserable his life had become. He was a very successful businessman, but there was something missing in his life. He also told me about his failed marriage. His question was, “How do I get my life fixed?”

I started talking with him about Jesus and how He could take the emptiness out of our life and put something solid there. After talking for a few minutes about Jesus and the gift of life through His forgiveness, the man asked, “What do I have to do to have this experience?” I told him that salvation is a gift of grace because of God’s love for us. I talked about Jesus’ death on the cross as the way to salvation and explained that salvation was a gift provided by His death. Though I said this clearly, he kept asking, “But what do I have to do?” Coming from the marketplace, he could not grasp that something as incredible as a new life was a gift of grace. I kept telling him that Jesus had paid for our salvation, so it is a gift for us to accept by faith. Finally he saw what I meant and gave his heart to Jesus. Within a couple of weeks, he came to a worship service and made a public commitment to Jesus and was baptized soon after.

Today he is very active in our church. His life touches many people in the business community as he has grown immensely in his faith. Each time I see him and watch him in his service to the Lord, I am grateful for a man who saw the need for something more in his life than success in business and gave his heart to Jesus.

It may be you are doing well in business and have had a lot of success but there is something missing. Like this man, you need Jesus, as He is the only One who can satisfy that emptiness in your heart. He has a marvelous gift of grace if you will simply ask Him to come into your life and direct your days.
