Having played the piano for the past 40 years, Leah Washburn is a well-known pianist and vocalist in central Alabama. She also has a Sunday morning music ministry to the Perry County Nursing Home and is the accompanist to the FAITH Ensemble at Judson College.
Q: What led you to play the piano?
A: My aunt was my piano teacher. I came to Judson College every year to play by memory.
Q: Why have you continued this activity?
A: Since I became a Christian at 16, the Holy Spirit enhanced my musical ability and that’s when I started using music as a ministry.
Q: What does the ministry demand?
A: It demands some time and practice because I’m the worship leader at our church.
Q: What do you get from the ministry?
A: Joy and fulfillment because I see how it minsters to people and gives them joy. I have fun with it.
Q: How do your family members support you?
A: They are crazy about it. They’re always asking me to play.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?
A: I’m going to be recording two CDs in the next few months. I plan to continue serving the Lord with my music until I am no longer able.
Q: What difference will your music make for you in the future?
A: I can see the Lord working and I can feel His presence when I’m playing and singing.
