Wavelength: Tuning in to God’s Voice in a World of Static

Jeff Petherick. Elk Lake, Mich.: Elk Lake Publishing, 2007.  257pp. (Paperback).

“The problem with the American dream is that it’s never enough.” That realization led successful businessman Jeff Petherick to look beyond his work in search for fulfillment. What he found was a relationship with Christ that changed everything. Petherick also discovered that God still speaks to His children; we don’t hear Him, he contends, because we have simply stopped listening.

“Wavelength” is an inspiring collection of Petherick’s experiences with listening to and heeding God’s voice. How does one hear and recognize the voice of God? The author likens hearing God’s voice to a radio; we must be tuned in to the right frequency or all we get is static.

Included with the stories is guidance for the Christian who seeks to hear from God, distilled in what Petherick describes as “three critical truths:” shut up and listen, respond and obey and fully surrender. The author cautions that listening, responding and surrendering can be hazardous to your comfortable lifestyle and status quo. Another caution: reading “Wavelength” may cause you to listen, respond and surrender.
