Wells retires from ministry at FBC Tuscaloosa

Carl Wells is retiring from the ministry after 53 years. Wells received his bachelor’s degree from Mississippi College in Clinton and his master’s in religious education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He then began serving as associate pastor of education at First Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, in Tuscaloosa Baptist Association.

He held the full-time position for 33 years before retiring for the first time and spending the next few years serving as an interim minister in numerous churches. He returned to the leadership team at First, Tuscaloosa, as minister to senior adults and continued his ministry for six more years before his most recent retirement.  “Carl is a great mentor, a great role model and a great lover of people,” said Senior Pastor Gil McKee. “He is known all over Alabama and people just love him. We are going to miss him sorely on our staff, but we were blessed to have him for so many years.” Wells and his wife, Eleanor, have two children and five grandchildren.
