ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Baptist volunteers from North Carolina and Virginia are assisting West Virginia with cleanup and recovery efforts in the wake of floods in the southwest corner of the state.
More than 200 homes in Mingo and Logan counties reportedly are flooded, reported Leon White, disaster relief director for the West Virginia Convention of Southern Baptists.
White said a team of volunteers traveled from North Carolina June 2 to assist in the cleanup and damage assessment efforts.
A mobile kitchen unit from the Baptist General Association of Virginia, meanwhile, was activated to help the American Red Cross prepare and distribute 8,000 meals on June 3.
Mickey Caison, off-site coordinator with the North American Mission Board’s Disaster Relief Operations Center, said Southern Baptist Disaster Relief responses are being handled by volunteers in Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska and Virginia.
