Destroyer of the Gods: Early Christian Distinctiveness in the Roman World by Larry W. Hurtado
I can’t recommend this book enough. It is a needed text for the modern church as it examines what made the early church distinctive in its early Roman context. The book examines the critiques of Roman culture to the early Christians and how the church, by its careful, faithful and steadfast loyalty to Christ, was the “destroyer of the gods” of ancient Roman paganism.
