“12 Ways Your Phone is Changing You” by Tony Reinke
With each new advance in technology, Christians are challenged to learn to be good stewards of this technology by using it for God’s glory. The smartphone has been an especially challenging addition to our lives. These devices promise connectivity, knowledge and community. However, they can lead to isolation and unrealistic expectations while delivering seemingly-anonymous, fingerprint-protected access to a world of temptation.
Should Christians go back to their Nokia 7210s or flip phones? If not, how should we approach this technology that can so easily rule over us? Tony Reinke, senior writer at DesiringGod.org, has addressed this challenge in “12 Ways Your Phone is Changing You.” This work is a well-researched, easy-to-read book that offers practical guidance to Christians who are learning to live with their smartphones. I’ve never recommended a book to a congregation as strongly as I have recommended Reinke’s work. It is truly a must-read.
