What the Bible Means to Me: Testimonies of how God’s Word impacts lives

Catherine Mackenzie, Editor. Ross-Shire, Scotland: Christian Focus Publications, 2011. 138 pp. (Paperback).

People from around the world and from many different walks of life were asked to share what the Bible means to them; this book is the result.

The testimonies differ quite a bit. For example, a man who worked in a theological college in Asia focused on his favorite book, Proverbs, sharing his favorite verses and those that had impacted his life. A children’s author focused on the stories in the Bible. A nurse with multiple sclerosis shared her dependence on the Bible’s promises.

Some, like theologian J.I. Packer, you will have heard of. Others, probably not. At least one is from Alabama. The point of having a variety of well-known and unknown people included is well taken: the Bible is not just for some of us but for all, and all benefit from exposure to it.

As an added bonus many of the testimonies are followed by facts about the Bible, like how many language groups do not have a Bible, short introductions to early Bible translators and the first Bible that was divided into verses.

The testimonies are engaging and inspiring to read. This is a book you keep lying around to pick up again and again.
