White, Helen

Helen White, director of the Birmingham Baptist Association’s (BBA) Caring Hands Medical Apartments since 1986 died March 24. She was 75.

A native of Piedmont, White spent 40 years as a dental hygienist until her retirement in 1986. That same year, she began working for the Medical Apartment Ministry, which provides housing to critically ill patients and their families.

She is survived by a sister and brother, 10 nieces and nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews and seven great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

“In every life, someone leaves and indelible print – that was Helen,” said Ricky Creech, director of missions for BBA.

White ministered to the patients and families who went through the Medical Apartment Ministry, he noted.

“Helen was able to bring peace to their lives,” Creech said.

The DOM estimated some 14,000 families stayed in the medical apartments during the 15 years White was there, noting they came from 40 states and 28 countries. (TAB)
