Ryan Whitley, founding pastor of the nearly 20-year-old CrossPoint Church in Trussville, will be nominated for a second one-year term as second vice president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention.
He was elected to his first term in the role last November during the 2023 state convention annual meeting, held at First Baptist Church Montgomery.
Thweatt to nominate Whitley
John Thweatt, pastor of First Baptist Church Pell City, recently shared with The Alabama Baptist his intention to nominate Whitley.
Thweatt and Whitley have traveled together on international missions trips for years and continue to encourage each other in their various ministry roles.
‘Reaching just one more’
Whitley is a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and received a doctor of ministry degree from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University.
Described by veteran pastor Buddy Gray as “a leader among leaders and a committed disciple maker,” Whitley was pastor of First Baptist Church Center Point in 1998 when the idea of a satellite campus was born.
CrossPoint Church became that campus before eventually branching out on its own Jan. 2, 2005, with the vision of “reaching just one more to become a fully devoted follower of Christ.”
Officer elections to take place in November
No other nominees have been announced for the role of second vice president.
Current first vice president Jarman Leatherwood also plans to be nominated for a second term as does current state convention president Craig Carlisle.
The annual meeting will be held Nov. 12–13 at Eastern Shore Baptist Church in Daphne.
