WMU funding

Thank you for the Jan. 11 editorial about Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) funding. The very positive letter of response by the WMU leadership was much appreciated, too. I sincerely hope that the International Mission Board and the North American Mission Board have sound business reasons and Holy Spirit leadership for withdrawing their funding for the promotion of these major missions offerings. The evidence now available does not indicate so.

In the land of Goshen, Ala., where I originated, there was a mythical story about a farmer who had a dog that bit his hand every time he fed him. This became a local proverb, “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.” This situation that you reported reminded me of this wisdom from times past.
