Valleydale Baptist Church, Birmingham, along with partners in the East Asia region, recently completed a water-purifying project that will provide clean drinking water for an entire village for years to come.
It’s due in large part to a $5,700 grant provided by the Pure Water, Pure Love (PWPL) outreach of national Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU).
The objective of PWPL is to provide Southern Baptist workers and the people they serve with clean drinking water, free from disease-causing microorganisms, at no cost to them. Valleydale Baptist’s grant is one of three given to Alabama Baptist churches since PWPL expanded its personal water filter ministry in March 2005 to include large-project grants.
In 2006, University Baptist Church, Montevallo, and Riverchase Baptist Church, Birmingham, received $3,893 for a project in Thailand and Baptist Church of the Covenant, Birmingham, received $14,000 for a project in Tanzania.
More than $170,000 in grants have been given to ministries in 15 countries, including the United States.
Churches, directors of missions and state WMU executive directors are eligible to apply for PWPL grants. Once an application is approved, PWPL requires an agreement that includes receipts from the project, reports from the project for three years, pictures of the project and reports of the impact of the project on the community.
