WMU to launch ‘Christ Followers’ theme at meeting

Through drama and inspiring testimonies, national Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) will launch the 2004–2006 emphasis of “Christ Followers” during its annual Missions Celebration June 13–14 at the Indiana Convention Center and RCA Dome in Indianapolis.

“Building on the new emphasis, this year’s event is designed to encourage, equip and motivate us all as we take a closer look at key attributes of a true follower of Christ,” said Wanda S. Lee, executive director of national WMU. “Together we will discover how God is working around the world through committed Christians who live a missions lifestyle because of a genuine love for Jesus Christ and for others.”

Laurita Miller, a nationally known Christian dramatist, will bring biblical followers of Christ to life through dramatic monologues.

Along with Lee and Miller, other leaders of the celebration include Amy Moody, worship leader, speaker and singer; Janet Hoffman, WMU national president; 2004 Acteens panelists; and a host of field personnel representing the North American and International Mission boards who will share their testimonies about their ministries.

In conjunction with WMU’s Missions Celebration, the WMU Foundation will host the Legacy Dessert Party June 13 at 9 p.m at the Hyatt Regency. The WMU Foundation will present the 2004 Dellanna West O’Brien Women’s Leadership Development Award, the CWJC site award, the Sybil Bentley Dove Award and the Lillian Isaacs Literacy Missions Award.

The Legacy Dessert Party is the only portion of the WMU program that requires pre-registration. The dessert party is free, but tickets must be reserved by May 15. To reserve a limit of four tickets, call the WMU Foundation toll-free at 1-877-482-4483. (BP)
