John William “Bill” Wolfe is the new director of missions (DOM) for Muscle Shoals Association.
A native of Memphis, Wolfe has pastured churches in Tennessee and Mississippi. He most recently served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Hayti, Mo.
Wolfe was licensed at Faith Haven Baptist Church and ordained at Charjean Baptist Church, both in Memphis.
He is a graduate of Mid-South Bible College in Memphis, Bethany Theological Seminary in Dothan and then extension program of Union University in Jackson, Tenn.
Wolfe’s wife is Tanna Wolfe. His first goal as DOM, according to Wolfe, is to strengthen existing ministries.
“There are some good churches in the association,” he said.
Wolfe said he wants to create new ways to do missions and see more churches become involved with the association’s children’s and youth camps.
Another goal he indentified is long-range strategic planning for areas that have been identified as church plants.
The new DOM added it is also important to him that all of Muscle Shoals’ churches feel a part of the association, regardless of how large or small they are.
“I want to be inclusive with everyone,” Wolfe said. “I want them (churches) to all feel a part of the association.
Wolfe added he hopes his visibility will allow him to set an example as a Christian leader in a way residents of the Muscle Shoals area can see he lives not only by his words, but also by the example he sets, “so that people can actually see me living it (faith) in my life,” he said.
He added that it is important the outside world sees churches involved with missions, evangelism and outreach if they are to convince non-Christians of Christ’s relevance in the world today.
The challenge of dealing with 30 churches as DOM instead of only on congregations is a responsibility Wolfe said will be challenging.
“That’s going to be a big transition for me,” he said.
