AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands — The Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Netherlands has appointed the first woman to serve as president of the synod. Ilona Fritz, pastor of a Lutheran congregation in Amsterdam, succeeds Sietze van Kammen, who resigned from the position. Fritz previously served on the synod’s executive committee.
