ATLANTA — Baptist Women in Ministry, started in 1983 to support Southern Baptist women serving as ministers, will move its offices to Mercer University’s McAfee School of Theology in northeast Atlanta.
The group celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2003 and formed a committee to study the organization’s future. Founded in Louisville, Ky., the organization most recently was based at Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Kan.
The group faced declining membership and funding in recent years that resulted in elimination of staff in 2003. Executive Director Susan Miller and office manager Kim Snyder were the last employees to lead the organization, which provided placement services and produced Folio newsletter for two decades.
Karen Massey, president of Baptist Women in Ministry and faculty member at McAfee, said, “Moving to Atlanta allows us to better support our constituency, which is predominantly in the South and along the eastern seaboard.”
