Wood marks 10 years at Shades Mountain Baptist

Danny Wood recently marked 10 years as pastor of Shades Mountain Baptist Church, Vestavia Hills, in Birmingham Baptist Association. Called to Shades Mountain Baptist from First Baptist Church, Ruston, La., Wood began his service March 2, 1997. The church celebrated his anniversary in the evening service March 11, which featured speakers, skits, songs and a prayer time. The church also presented Wood with a check, a one-month sabbatical and flowers for his wife, Janice. There was a reception afterward.

A Birmingham native, Wood was in business and a member of the church from 1976 until 1982. During that time, he taught in the singles ministry, was ordained as a deacon and married in 1978. In 1984, Wood felt called to the ministry and began attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He also served as minister of young married adults at Prestonwood Baptist Church, Dallas, during that time. After receiving his master’s from Southwestern Seminary, he became pastor of First, Ruston, La.

After returning to Shades Mountain Baptist, he earned his doctor of ministry degree from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University in Birmingham. He is on the executive committee for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM), as well as other SBOM committees, and has served on the Credentials Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention.
