Work by Beeson’s Smith named Book of the Year

“Doctrine That Dances: Bringing Doctrinal Preaching and Teaching to Life” by professor Robert Smith Jr. of Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School has claimed its second book of the year award.

The volume was recently named 2008’s Book of the Year that Speaks to the Soul of the Preacher by preachingtoday.com. Last spring, the book won Preaching Magazine’s Book of the Year honor for 2008.

Smith, professor of Christian preaching at Beeson, is an ordained Baptist minister, a frequent speaker on preaching topics and a contributing editor of a study of Christian ministry in the black church, “Preparing for Christian Ministry.” With Beeson Dean Timothy George, he is co-editor of “A Mighty Long Journey: Reflections on Racial Reconciliation.”
