York’s Siloam Baptist celebrates 175th anniversary

The 175th anniversary celebration of Siloam Baptist Church, York, on May 19 gave members of the Bigbee Baptist Association church the opportunity to “reminisce and visit with folks we’ve not seen in quite a long time,” Pastor Brad Campbell said.

The service began at 10:30 a.m. and featured speaker Rick Lance, executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, who spoke from 2 Timothy.

A presentation of photos of the church through the years was shared, and the church’s history was available in booklet form for the approximately 200 attendees.

Church pianist Lynda Harwell and organist Ruth Tew were recognized for 30 years of music service to the church. There also were former Siloam Baptist pastors and a former music minister in attendance. The service included choir music and additional special music, and Lonette Berg, executive director of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, was on hand to present Siloam Baptist with a framed certificate.

Campbell noted that music director Tom Taylor “was a big help” in planning the anniversary service.

“We would want to continue to see God’s blessing on our church as we work to be the witness right there where we’re supposed to be,” Campbell said of his vision for the future of Siloam Baptist.
