Judson College, in partnership with the Perry County Board of Education, has enlisted dramatist Billie Jean Young to serve a second year as Artist in Residence.
In this role, Young will provide dramatic arts experience for elementary and high school students in Marion and Uniontown.
Young will plan performances in the schools as well as a children’s theatre at Judson.
The Alabama native holds degrees from Judson and Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.
Young is perhaps best known for her one-woman play "Fannie Lou Hamer: This Little Light," based on the life of the Mississippi civil rights activist.
She is also the founder and director of The Drama Project/Child Abuse Project, which seeks to help women and young people recognize and respond to child abuse.
Young has received a MacArthur Fellows Award, the Governor’s Award in the Arts for the state of Mississippi and the Fannie Lou Hamer on the Road to Freedom Award from the Congressional Black Caucus.
