Nine-year-old Summer Thompson believes abortion is wrong. And she’s ready to tell anyone who asks her, which is why she was awarded second place in her regional division of 4-H’s 2008 Speak Up Alabama public speaking contest last October.
But Summer’s passion to share her voice didn’t stop there. Since that time, the young East Gadsden Baptist Church member has been invited to speak nearly a half-dozen times in mostly “secular settings” — including this year’s Etowah Pregnancy Testing Center’s annual fund-raiser that had nearly 650 in attendance — as well as at her Etowah Baptist Association church. Most recently, Summer worked with a Christian filmmaker, who is preparing to make her story available to pregnancy centers and churches across the nation.
Summer’s outline, which she wrote and researched herself, addresses three key topics: abortion hurts babies, abortion hurts mothers and abortion hurts America. It concludes with “God’s point of view,” citing Psalm 139.
