Shouts of joy reverberated through the streets of downtown Montgomery March 10 as more than 600 youth walked to the Capitol steps for the conclusion of CrossWalk Alabama. Alabama Acteens and Youth on Mission joined efforts in this national movement and carried a cross into every Alabama Baptist association throughout the last year.
“It’s really about showing people what Jesus did for us on the cross,” said Michael Armstrong, a youth from Andalusia.
CrossWalk Alabama kicked off one year ago ant Pizzazz 2000, the annual state Acteens convention. Since then, youth across the state have led ministry projects, evangelistic efforts and youth rallies in their communities.
Teenagers walked six blocks to the Capitol, singing praise songs and choruses.
They gathered on the Capitol steps to sing more choruses and heard from Candace McIntosh, Alabama WMU youth consultant, and Rick Lance, executive director of the Alabama Baptist Convention.
“Carrying the cross has made a big difference in my life,” said Jennifer Edgar, a member of the Alabama Acteens Challenge Team from Florence. “It made me realize how important it is to make a commitment for Christ and stand strong for Him.”
