The Families First Ministry Center at First Baptist Church, Maumelle, Arkansas, serves foster and adoptive families and also assists those involved in protective service cases. The center provides necessary items to help families in need, such as clothes, furniture and diapers, and it also provides a room for supervised visits between foster children and their biological parents. Through it all, families find love, hope and support, along with many opportunities for gospel conversations, Arkansas Baptist News reported.
Florida
When the pandemic forced a closure of English as a Second Language classes, Florida Baptist leaders discovered that various virtual platforms could multiply their efforts and outreach. As ESL classes went online, students from across the globe began registering, the Florida Baptist Witness reported. “The churches realized very quickly that God had given them a worldwide ministry,” said Marc Johnston, Florida Baptists’ community ministries catalyst.
Georgia
Children in Vacation Bible School at Ivy Creek Baptist Church, Buford, Georgia, donated 2,500 books through Read Georgia, an initiative aimed at helping disadvantaged children learn to read while introducing them and their families to Christ, The Christian Index reported. Lorna Bius, a mobilizer for Mission Georgia, said the generosity of the 180 children at Ivy Creek will pay educational and spiritual dividends.
Kentucky
Children attending Vacation Bible School at Hazel Baptist, a small southwestern Kentucky church, received an offering of $6,300 for Sunrise Children’s Services, Kentucky Today reported. Donations came from throughout the community, including from churches of other denominations. Dale Suttles, president of Sunrise, said, “I’ve never seen a time where Baptists are more united and galvanized. This is something they are passionate about — helping hurting children.”
Tennessee
Three researchers who have played various roles in the research and development of COVID-19 vaccines have a common thread — the Baptist Student Union (now Baptist Collegiate Ministry) at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, the Baptist and Reflector reported. The three alumni — Buddy Creech, Josh Denny and Sheri Wilcox — all affirm the positive role the ministry played. “I am forever thankful for such a biblical, encouraging anchor in the middle of my college campus,” Denny said.
