The leadership of a Presbyterian church in Sudan recently received warning from local authorities that the congregation’s building was to be demolished.
Leaders of Sudan Presbyterian Evangelical Church in southern Khartoum, Sudan were informed June 7 that the structure could be razed at any moment, a source told Morning Star News.

“Authorities claimed without evidence that the church building is constructed on a road — which the church leaders deny — and that it is located on land not zoned for a religious building,” Morning Star reported. “Christians in Sudan have long complained that authorities refuse to designate lands for church buildings and use it as a pretext to bulldoze them.”
A Pentecostal congregation in Khartoum North faced a similar situation in July 2025. Morning Star noted police and armed forces accompanied a crew given responsibility for demolishing that church complex.
At first, no reason for demolition was given, Morning Star stated.
“Authorities later told church officials the building was destroyed as part of a drive to remove ‘unregulated’ buildings” throughout Khartoum state, according to Christian support group Open Doors.
