Summer is in full swing, but the 2007–2008 school year is just around the corner. And with the new school year comes fresh ears to hear a message from Bill Day and Alabama Citizens Action Program (ALCAP).
Day, who heads up the educational division of ALCAP, visits schools each year trumpeting the abstinence message — abstinence from drugs and alcohol. He also offers programs on conflict resolution, anger management, violence prevention, bully prevention, character education and more.
But to accomplish the 1,885 presentations in 634 schools done during the last school year, Day had to have help.
He counts on nearly 40 volunteers to speak to the students and make the presentations. And he needs more because the opportunities in the schools exist if he can find enough people to go.
“We consider this a ministry where we can teach the students how to make right choices,” he said.
