The prelude to this year’s State Evangelism Conference in Mobile will be a blitz of block parties — a new effort to give those who attend the conference a chance to put personal evangelism into practice.
The block party blitz will take place the weekend before the Jan. 23–24 conference, to be held at Dauphin Way Baptist Church, Mobile, in Mobile Baptist Association.
Six or seven block parties — similar to the Crossover outreach efforts that accompany the Alabama Baptist State Convention annual meeting each year — will be hosted by area churches at well-known locations in their community, said Teman Knight, an associate in the office of evangelism at the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions.
“This was the local pastors’ idea on how to get local people more involved in the conference and in evangelism,” Knight said. “We don’t want to just talk about doing evangelism; we want to do evangelism in the community and give the people coming down the opportunity to do that, too.”
Block parties already planned for the area are:
– Home Depot, west Mobile, Jan. 21, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
– Manning’s Market Place, Saraland, Jan. 21, 12:30–2:30 p.m.
– Municipal Park, Mobile, Jan. 21, 2–4 p.m.
– Baker High School, Mobile, Jan. 22, 2–5 p.m.
Others are in the planning stages with location, date and time to be announced.
