Linden Baptist Church’s student ministry went to the “Frontline” Feb. 24–26.
It’s done that annually for about 20 years, going into six public high schools and three private ones in Linden and the surrounding areas to host general assemblies and a large evangelistic rally.
With more than 600 in attendance at this year’s concluding rally, about 230 professions of faith were made with another 100 rededications, according to David Grayson, associate pastor of education and students at the Bethel Baptist Association church.
“It was really awesome to see God move. It was like a revival,” Grayson said.
Evangelist Randy Hogue was guest speaker and singer/songwriter Kevin Derryberry led music during the assemblies and rally.
Grayson added that although it is difficult to host religious assemblies in the public schools, it is at least an opportunity to “try to encourage, motivate and inspire students to be their best.”
But the rally makes it all worth it, Grayson said.
“Obviously it’s an outreach to evangelize, but also we try to do this because the area around us is fairly rural and it gives area churches with smaller youth groups a chance to come to an event that doesn’t cost anything.”
