An ordinary Wednesday night at Welcome Hill Baptist Church, Fort Payne, became extraordinary when five children prayed to receive Christ following the evening service.
Ranging from age 8 to age 11, the children were stirred after youth pastor Jerome Manley led a devotional about the Second Coming of Christ. Manley said the devotion that “got them to thinking” came from Matthew 24 and 1 Thessalonians 4.
Siblings J.J., Shana and Shalaine Ayres accepted the Lord in the church directly after hearing the devotion, while brother-sister pair T.J. and Elizabeth Mullins came to Christ on the church bus on their way home from the service, said James Maples, pastor of the Lookout Mountain Baptist Association church.
Manley said he was “very excited” and surprised when not one, but five young people accepted Christ on May 9. This night was especially encouraging for the youth pastor of 23 years because he “hadn’t gotten to pray with anyone [to receive Christ] in a long time.”
The church is working toward buying each of the children their own Bible so that each child can flourish in their newfound faith.
“We want to keep them coming to church, encourage them to come on Sundays and get into the Bible,” Manley said.
