A Second Chance (Feb. 3, 2000 Letter)

A SECOND CHANCE
A few weeks ago, an article in The Alabama Baptist caught my attention. It was about a group being started for Southern Baptists ministers’ wives. Having e-mail, I decided to see if I could join, although I would be a widow of their group. I was accepted and got a lot of mail. However, I realized that widows need a group of their own, because our place is somewhat different than an active pastor’s wife.

I talked with my director of missions, Larry Felkins (Chilton Assoc.), and with my former director of missions, Charles Christmas, and they both thought it was an excellent idea. I have checked into the matter and have successfully created a new e-mail group for widows.

Widows who do not have access to e-mail are welcome to communicate by postal mail, with both groups having access to the same mail. The group will be called “Widows of Southern Baptist Pastors.”

Information about membership is available over the Internet at this address: wsbc-subscribe@egroups.com.

Widows without e-mail can contact me at 12056 County Road 51, Jemison, AL 35085-4969, or call 205-688-2238.

Those having e-mail who have any questions may contact me at joann@hiwaay.net. But after the initial setup, you will not need my address, because all correspondence will go through the group and will be sent to wsbp@egroups.com.

I have already been contacted by a member of “wives” about a widow in Mississippi, so widows from any state will be welcome.

I pray that we may get to know, enjoy, have fun, encourage, pray for one other, and be led of the Lord in this new fellowship. It excites me to think of the possibilities!
