Afterglow, a celebration of the state’s music evangelists, offered Alabama Baptists at the state evangelism conference Jan. 24-25 in Dothan a chance to hear what the state has to offer.
"It’s a time where Alabama evangelistic singers have a chance to sing before the people and encourage their hearts with their singing," said Leon Westerhouse, music director and convention liaison. Westerhouse, who moderated Monday’s Afterglow — held at the end of the conference’s second session — added the program was designed to " … show people what we have in Alabama and encourage people to use our Alabama music evangelists."
Ventriloquist Lee Pitts Spooner of Mobile entertained the audience prior to the conference’s opening Jan. 24. Spooner used her puppet Nicky — whom she refers to as "God’s little talking tree" — to stress that "it’s important to tell our friends about Jesus."
Afterglow also included a performance by Emory and Mickey Keith of Lakeview Baptist Church in Auburn. Emory Keith said he has been singing for many years, praying each morning that God will place someone in his path he can minister to.
Afterglow also featured Floriday State University student Brian Wingate on the piano and trumpeter Danny Wolfe.
