Safety from reaching higher ground was just 50 yards from her bunk, said Patrick Marsh, according to the report. During the unexpected flooding, 27 campers and counselors died after the high waters swept them away.
An Alabama bill, called the Sarah Marsh Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Act, reportedly focuses on requirements that include emergency evacuation plans, banning cabins located on floodplains and having preparedness licenses. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey is among those backing the bill advanced by the House committee.
