Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey extends state health order through Aug. 31, requires masks in schools and colleges

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey today (July 29) extended the state’s current health order through Aug. 31.

The health order remains mostly the same, but it adds a requirement for students and employees of schools and colleges from 2^nd grade through college to wear masks “where possible.”

Ivey said the face covering requirement “could be an added burden,” but she said the requirement is important to provide a safe and healthy environment for students and to take care of the state’s teachers as well.

“Wearing a mask can’t hurt, but it sure can help,” Ivey said.
