Alabamians share by going, serving

Five Points Baptist Church, Ider, in Sand Mountain Baptist Association sponsored its first missions trip this summer, sending 13 people to Webster Springs, W. Va.

During the week, the team worked at Mountain Marketplace Mission, a mission service that provides groceries, clothing and furniture to those in need in the community. Team members helped refurbish the mission’s building by repairing ceilings and toilets, cleaning out abandoned rooms and painting. They also packed and distributed 400 bags of groceries.

In addition, they participated in devotionals and rallies in the Webster Springs community.

Whitesburg Baptist Church, Huntsville, in Madison Baptist Association took 24 volunteers to the Gulf Coast Oct. 5–14. They worked in block party evangelism, helping to plant North Harrison Church, Gulfport, Miss. 
The missions team, which had been trained by Whitesburg Baptist’s creative arts evangelism team, also performed several live skits and drama productions at the 36th annual National Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores, held Oct. 11–14.

Throughout the course of that weekend, team members passed out tracts and witnessed to 800 people. Seven decisions were made at a block party at an RV campground.

Pine Barren Baptist Association took 42 people from various churches in the association to a Navajo reservation in Bloomfield, N.M., this summer. The group worked with Gospel Victory Baptist Church, holding Bible studies throughout the week for the Navajos, and helped repair the church building. Seven people were saved during the week.

The missions trip has become an annual event for the association, and since 2000, groups have traveled on a regular basis to aid Gospel Victory Baptist in its ministry.

Eastern Hills Baptist Church, Montgomery, in Montgomery Baptist Association took nine people to Guatemala Oct. 13–20.

After prayer walking the area, the team went door to door in the town of San Luis Jilotepeque. It visited 124 homes, spoke with 200 people and distributed 246 copies of the Gospel of Luke and 250 cassette tapes of New Testament Bible stories. By week’s end, 45 people prayed to receive Jesus.

One man the team talked to was a Mayan spiritual leader, Rosalio, who addresses the town through a loudspeaker several times a day. The team was able to talk extensively with Rosalio and left Guatemala in prayer that this man of such influence would come to know to Jesus.
