After spending more than a year in Tehran's brutal Evin Prison, American pastor Saeed Abedini has been transferred to one of Iran's more obscure and dangerous prisons.
He is now in one of the most dangerous sections of Rajai Shahr Prison, where violent prisoners such as murderers and rapists are held, according to the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ).
Dutch diplomat Loes Bijnen described the prison as a place where "one is put out of sight" and "one stops to be a human being."
The ACLJ called the transfer a "deeply disturbing development" and said it is a "move that puts Pastor Saeed's life directly at risk."
Abedini, a U.S. citizen, was arrested in 2012 while visiting Iran to lay the groundwork for a government-approved orphanage. He has been held for his Christian faith and serving an eight-year sentence.
