It’s great to find good music where you’re not expecting it. 

A few weeks ago our editorial assistant for online communications at The Alabama Baptist sent a new CD, Andrew Alford’s “My Resolution,” and forwarded an email from his manager. The unexpected part is that Alford and his family attend my home church, Central Baptist Church, Decatur, where I am a member of the praise band.

 The fact that I didn’t know him or his music should probably begat another post, but let’s do one thing at a time.

Alford wrote all the lyrics and music for “My Resolution.” For a first effort, the lyrics show a lot of maturity, and Alford’s vocals are clear and emotive. Producer David Vest assembled a fine cast of musicians and recorded everything at his studio E320 Productions in Decatur. Those who know Vest know that the production and musicianship, as always, is top-notch.

Alford says the title cut and the theme for the album is “my resolution to live a life that is pleasing to God and to bring the message of Jesus to a world that is searching for something to believe in.” I’d say he hit his mark. I’m looking forward to the next CD.
