Appalled at BWA

In reading the Jan. 8 issue of The Alabama Baptist, I was pleased to see the article on the front page: “SBC committee recommends withdrawal from BWA.” I was, however, appalled by the arrogance of the Baptist World Alliance General (BWA) Secretary Denton Lotz’s comment: “I fear for the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), because this decision follows in a long line of other decisions that, I believe, will ultimately lead to the dissolution and self-destruction of the SBC.” Who do this man and the other so-called leaders of the BWA think they are? Does the BWA think that Jesus has to have them in order for His mission work to be carried out?

I am proud of our SBC Executive Committee members for not being weak or apologetic to BWA for standing for the truth — salvation only through Jesus. I can’t help but think about the portion of Scripture from Revelation 18:4: “Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins.” Please don’t fear for us, Mr. Lotz. Fear for BWA. We Southern Baptists will continue to exist until the last second that Jesus takes the church as His holy bride.
