A Southern Baptist state lawmaker from Louisiana will begin serving Sept. 1 as the new head of one of Washington’s most influential religious right groups.
Directors of the Family Research Council have named Tony Perkins as the organization’s president. Perkins, a Republican member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, is a member of Greenwell Springs Baptist Church in the Baton Rouge area.
