Baptist women worldwide plan to pray

Baptist women will gather all across the world to pray Nov. 1 as part of the Baptist World Alliance’s (BWA) annual Baptist Women’s Day of Prayer.

The day of prayer, which began in 1948, has evolved over the years in some churches to include a weekend prayer retreat, a special program and monthlong activities.

Women also are encouraged to give to an offering for the department that day. The department depends on this offering as its main source of income to help and impact women worldwide.

“It is the state of women in the world that makes it essential for Baptist women to come together for one day or during the entire month of November to pray and give so that our world will be impacted for Christ,” said Patsy Davis, director of the BWA women’s department. At the BWA Women’s Leadership Conference in July, the department introduced its theme for the next five years — “In Step With the Spirit,” based on Galatians 5:25 — and women are encouraged to incorporate it into the day of prayer.
