The work of God is moving toward maturity in the Montana Southern Baptist Convention (MTSBC). The ministry of Southern Baptists to the Big Sky country began in 1952 with visionary and courageous leadership. In 2002, the Montana Southern Baptist Fellowship celebrated 50 years of ministry in becoming the Montana Southern Baptist Convention.
Many Southern Baptists around the country take enthusiastic ownership of what has happened in the years since 1952, as well they should. Montana Southern Baptist churches are stronger today because of the sacrificial contribution countless churches and individuals from around the country have made over the past five decades. In addition, significant partnerships, both formal and informal, have provided crucial support and counsel. The MTSBC currently enjoys a meaningful partnership with the Tennessee Baptist Convention.
In its fifth year as a convention, the MTSBC finds itself healthy and excited about the future. It also finds itself at a crucial turning point. With the recent departure of the state executive director-treasurer to a foreign missions field, there is the need to discover new leadership for this new day in Montana. In filling this position, the search committee has announced it will receive resumés until Aug. 15. All correspondence will be electronic, so referrals and resumés should be sent to: mtsbc_search@roadrunner.com.
There is still a lot about Montana reminiscent to the pioneer days. The incredible beauty, wide-open spaces and independent spirit of the people are all evidence of this. There is nothing like seeing God at work when He is at work in Montana. There is still so much more to do in reaching the special people that call Montana home with the gospel. And perhaps the best news is that the Southern Baptist churches of Montana are positioned to do the work, especially when so many others from across the country are joining them in the work. There is a big future for Big Sky country.
